Identity crisis
It’s difficult enough to endure this brutal, hate-filled election year. But when factoring in the identity crisis of both major party Presidential candidates, well one can’t help but shake their head.
On each side of the aisle, the candidate is making a lot of claims of who they are and aren’t – this year. Does it matter that in the past, their claims were somewhat different? I vote yes! Which, by the way, is my only non-hesitant election decision so far.
Each politician is also helping – um, no – by telling us who their opponent is and who that person will never be.
As more states open this week for early voting, time is running short to decide who is telling the most truth. Like me, if you’ve paid attention to the exchanges, you know that one is telling tall tales – wait – the other one is – no, wait –
…sigh
During this identity crisis,
I thought it would calm our minds to remember the claims of one has never changed their stance on anything. Jesus. Who did he say he was?
I AM!
“Jesus answered, ‘I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, I am!’” John 8:58 NLT
I AM the bread of life.
“Jesus replied, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.’” John 6:35 NLT
I AM the light of the world.
“Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, ‘I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.’” John 8:12 NLT
I AM the gate (some Bible versions say “door”).
“Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved. They will come and go freely and will find good pastures. The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” John 10:9-10 NLT
I AM the good shepherd.
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep.” John 10:11 NLT
I AM the resurrection and the life.
Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.” John 11:25 NLT
I AM the way, the truth, and the life.
“Jesus told him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.’” John 14:6 NLT
I AM the true grapevine.
“I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener.” John 15:1 NLT
I’m going to concentrate on the I AM as I head to the polls twice. No fraud here – I’m a poll worker!
